Study India Workshop

The Study India Workshop is a student-led event organised as part of the Study India Certificate at the English Department, University of Münster. It aims to move beyond the idea of “India” as a fixed object of study, approaching it instead through a hermeneutic circle in which the frameworks of study shape what becomes legible. What enters the curriculum, whose histories become legible, which forms of storytelling count as scholarship, and what happens beyond the boundaries of print all shape the ways India can be encountered. The workshop brings together students and scholars working across the humanities, with contributions ranging from Indian-language literature in the global Anglophone book market, digital memorials and diasporic Hindu mourning and Speculative fiction in the Global South. Talks will lead into discussion and a roundtable on studying India now. The day will also launch a new student-led Study India Book Club, which we hope will carry these conversations forward.
