Beschreibung

The Paleogene and Neogene of northwestern Bohemia is spread as a continuous zone of magmatic and sedimentary complexes, parallel to the Czech-German boundary. The present overview covers three areas: Doupovské hory Mts., Most Basin and České středohoří Mts. They are all rich in the fossil record, being of interest to the scientific community for many years, but the study of macrofossils primarily focused on leaves, fruits and seeds, and the fossil wood studies were rather limited. Over the past 25 years, the fossil wood research has made significant progress (Koutecký 2024; Sakala 2024). The research was supported by Cooperatio Programme Research Area GEOL and SVV (both Charles University).
