Beschreibung

The Dolomites are well-known for their exceptionally well-preserved Triassic successions, providing key records of the Carnian Pluvial Episode (CPE). Occurring around 234 to 232 Ma, the CPE corresponds to a major phase of global climatic change during the Late Triassic, commonly associated with increased humidity and enhanced siliciclastic input into sedimentary basins, as well as significant biotic turnover affecting both terrestrial and marine ecosystems (Dal Corso et al., 2020). This study focuses on sections located within the Heiligkreuz Formation (Dolomites, Northern Italy) (Pecorari et al., 2023). The aim is to identify sedimentological and palynofacies signals associated with the CPE. Lithological observations are integrated with palynofacies analysis and carbon isotope data. Initial results on particulate organic matter indicate a strong dominance of phytoclasts thoughout the sections, with limited variability and no significant variation in the relative abundance translucent and opaque phytoclasts. In contrast, palynomorphs, including spores and pollen grains, are generally well preserved and relatively abundant.
