Join us for a three-day-hackathon to create a Zotero plug-in and a preprint bot to boost the visibility of replication studies!

Background

In the social, behavioral, and cognitive sciences, replications are rarely conducted, difficult to publish, and hard to find. With over 200 contributors, we have created the FORRT Replication Hub to solve these problems. The purpose of this hackathon is to create tools that increase the findability and visilbity of replications.

Zotero Plug-In and Preprint Bot

  • Users of the Zotero plug-in will be notified of any replication attempts that targeted references from their library. See details.
  • The preprint bot will notify authors of preprints who cited studies for which there is a replication attempt that they did not cite. See details.

Who should apply?

We're looking for coders and programmers, as well as anyone interested in making replication count.

Why join?

The hackathon gives you a chance to collaborate with an international team of open science advocates, build impactful tools for your portfolio and GitHub profile and earn credit on publications, project pages, and the FORRT Contributors page.

Process

After application, we will get in touch to schedule an informal meetup to discuss your goals and skills and preview our hackathon plans. It's a great chance to connect, discuss expectations, and see how we can collaborate for an awesome event!

Limited number of travel grants

This project is funded by UKRI, which allows us to pay travel and accommodation for participants.

Future Events

This event is part of a series. Hackathons #2 and #3 will take place from 25-27 March 2026 and 17-19 June 2026 and invite participants to create and polish further tools.

Applications are open until September 7! Please contact l.wallrich@bbk.ac.uk with any questions.

Please note that this hackathon is primarily in-person; if you would prefer to join remotely, email l.wallrich@bbk.ac.uk to explore options.
