DESCRIPTION:Intelligence is the ability to perceive information and to ret
 ain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviour within a chan
 ging environment. This collborative research centre (CRC) is inspired by t
 he question whether synthetic matter can provide artificial building block
 s to enable intelligent abilities. Such intelligent matter would provide e
 ntirely new opportunities for instance for the development of artificial s
 kin that self-regulates temperature and absorbance\; soft robotics with ad
 aptive tactility\; and brain-inspired computing with reduced energy consum
 ption. Intelligent matter likely requires an integrated system of material
 s and nanoscale components. Hence\, the central scientific question of thi
 s CRC is: How does intelligent behaviour emerge in a system of nanoscale b
 uilding blocks that operate collectively?This scientific symposium will sh
 owcase the work of international experts in the field and a poster sessio
 n highlighting progress in the various research projects of the CRC. Fu
 rthermore\, we will award a prize for an outstanding recent publication b
