Registration für the workshop organised by the HiSMaComp project.
HiSMaComp - Historical survey maps and the comparative study of the functionality and morphology of urban space. Standardisation – Digital processing – Research is a Polish-German cooperation between Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Institute for Comparative Urban History (IStG – Institut für vergleichende Städtegeschichte) in Münster.
The project is designed to be an innovative research enterprise that seeks to build a comprehensive comparative methodology for historical urban research and run case studies for three town types. Based on the work of the European Historic Towns Atlas, it re-uses the geodata and information on topographic objects created during the production of the printed atlases and implements semantic web technologies to create a usable basis for the comparison. Moreover, it is to set up a research data infrastructure to publish digital maps and data for the benefit of the Historic Towns Atlas community.
The idea of the workshop is to discuss the relevant research concepts as well as the HiSMaComp approach, methodology, and workflow in dialogue with experts in the fields of Urban History, Historical Cartography, and GIS.
